The Mariemberg Catholic mission appears to be the cradle of the Catholic Church in Cameroon. Historic site, this church is the first church built by the Pallotine fathers in the 19th century, with a beautiful view of the Sanaga river. Because of the difficulties encountered on site and their devotion to Mary to whom they will dedicate the protection and conduct of their mission, these pioneers designated their initial location with the German name “Marienberg”, which translates “the mountain from Marie ". On the feast of the Immaculate Conception, December 8, 1890, the Pallotins dedicated all of Cameroon to Mary Queen of the Apostles. From 1890 to 1915, 16 other Catholic missions were founded by the Pallotine fathers on Cameroonian territory. We can truly say that the faith of Catholic Christians in Cameroon is rooted in Marienberg, a place of spiritual renewal for each and everyone. Renowned Catholic mission; national place of pilgrimage.
